International Master Viani D’Cunha Top Seed in State Open FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2017

Bengaluru: Karnataka State Open FIDE Rated Chess Championship 2017 was flagged off today at Osteen College, 5th Main Road, Chamrajpet, Bangalore. The championship was jointly organised by Chess Shoots Academy, Bangalore and Rotary Club Bangalore South (R I Dist 3190). The event was inaugurated by Srikumar B V, President Osteen College. The Chief Guest of the occasion were Sathish P S, President, Rotary Club Bangalore South. Sunil Kumar, Secretary, Rotary Club Bangalore South, Jayachandra Aradhya, Rotary Club, Bangalore South, Aravind Shashtry, Secretary, United Karnataka Chess Association. Hanumantha R, Joint secretary, All India Chess Federation were the other dignitaries on the dais.

A total of 205 players from different parts of the state are participating in this championship. International Master, Viani Antonio D’cunha (ELO Rating 2408) of Mangalore is the top seed followed by Sanjay N(2356) of income tax, Bangalore, Gahan MG (2304) of Mangalore and Yashas D (2281) of Shivamogga.

The championship carries a prize fund of Rs 3,00,000. The champion will take home Rs 50000 cash prize and trophy. Under 8, 10,12,14 years children are eligible for separate trophies in their categories. The 10 round championship will conclude on 14th May 2017.
