Kalaangann: Felicitation and Musical Evening

Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann, in collaboration with Sumell, hosted the International Music Day celebration and the 298th Monthly Theatre Program, a musical extravaganza titled ‘Vivid Ninad’, on October 4, 2026 at Kalaangann. On this occasion, seasoned Music Teacher Charles Dmello was honored. NRI businessman Leo Rodrigues, who felicitated him, shared his appreciation, saying, “This tradition of honoring a Music Teacher is commendable. Even at the age of 82, he continues to play music and teaches others with great discipline. May his enthusiasm inspire the youth, and may his students carry this musical journey forward.”

Sumell coordinator Raina Sequeira delivered the introductory remarks, shedding light on the journey of the Sumell singing club. Liza Taccode read the citation of honor. Sumell treasurer Clara Pinto, Mandd Sobhann office-bearers Rony Crasta and Sunil Monteiro, Mumbai representative Leo Fernandes, Arun Raj Rodrigues, Benedicta Rebello (Mumbai), Irene Dmello, Lavina Rodrigues (Abu Dhabi), Lionel Dmello, Loyola Dsouza and Carol Rodrigues were present. Keron Madtha compered the program.

Businessman and social worker John Suresh flagged off the Monthly Theatre program by ringing the traditional bell. Following this, the ‘Sumell’ and ‘Winter Tone Bantwal’ troupes performed a curated selection of Konkani songs spanning a wide variety of styles and genres including Baila, Swing, Jive, Slow & Fast Waltz, Acappella, Rock, Folk, Rumba, Reggae, Disco, Bhangra, and Tapori. Under the musical direction of Sanjay Rodrigues, the instrumental accompaniment was provided by Stalin Dsouza, Sanjith Rodrigues, Vikshith and Roshan Bela.
