Karkala youth drugged, 1.65 lakh worth items looted in train

Manipal: An unknown person looted a 28-year-old youth of gold and cash, all amounting to Rs 1.65 lakh on the Mathsyagandha train after offering him biscuits laced with sedatives on July 23.

Sunil Shetty (29), a resident of Irvatthor of Karkala Taluk, was travelling in the Mathsyagandha train from Thana Railway station to Udupi on July 23. When the train reached Chiplon Station, a person entered his compartment and after initiating a conversation, developed friendship with Sunil. After taking him into confidence, he allegedly offered him biscuits which Sunil ate.

Later, Sunil fell unconscious as the biscuits were laced with sedatives. The miscreant allegedly left Sunil in the same condition and fled with his belongings, which included gold worth Rs 1.60 lakh, cash Rs 5000, ATM cards and two mobile phones, all amounting to Rs 1.65 lakh. The incident came to light when Sunil Shetty reached Udupi Railway Station.

A case has been registered in the Manipal Police Station and investigation is on.
