Doctor Found Murdered in Dharwad; Eight-Year-Old Son Stabbed, Wife Detained for Questioning
Dharwad: An incident has been reported in Dharwad, Karnataka, where an anesthesiologist was found dead at his residence, and his eight-year-old son was found with stab injuries. The police have detained the deceased doctor’s wife for questioning in connection with the case.
The deceased has been identified as Dr. Kiran Honnannavar (45), an anesthesiologist serving at Chirayu Hospital in Dharwad. His wife, Dr. Priyanka, an ophthalmologist, has been taken into police custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The couple’s eight-year-old son, who sustained stab injuries in the incident, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to the preliminary investigation, only the couple and their eight-year-old son were present in the apartment at the time of the incident. Police said the possibility of an outsider entering the residence appears remote, as the apartment complex has stringent security measures in place.
Speaking to the media, Police Commissioner N Sashi Kumar said, “Family members had reportedly been trying to contact Dr. Kiran throughout the day. Dr. Priyanka initially informed them that he was resting and later said that he had gone out. When relatives were still unable to reach him by evening, they visited the residence, where the incident was discovered.”
CP Sashikumar further said, “Dr. Kiran was found lying in a pool of blood inside the house, while the couple’s eight-year-old son was discovered in another room with stab injuries. The child, who was still breathing, was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment”.
Police are investigating the case from every possible angle to determine how the incident occurred. Investigators said that during questioning, Dr. Priyanka appeared to be in a state of shock and gave inconsistent and unusual statements. Police are verifying the authenticity of her statements and are also collecting information from family members to determine the motive behind the murder.
As part of the investigation, police are examining CCTV footage from the apartment complex to trace movements into and out of the building around the time of the incident.
A case has been registered at the Suburban Police Station. Officials said the exact motive and circumstances surrounding the murder are expected to become clearer after the post-mortem report and further investigation.
Meanwhile, some relatives of the deceased doctor have alleged that Dr. Priyanka was responsible for the murder. However, police have not confirmed these allegations. The investigation is continuing, and while domestic discord is being considered as one possible angle, police said no definitive motive has yet been established.
