Karnataka Medical Council Elections 2020 – Dr Divaker Rao Keeps Dakshina Kannada’s hopes High

The medical fraternity of the state are racing and thrilled to be participating in the upcoming Karnataka Medical Council election to be held on 23 Jan 2020 polling will be held at IMA House Mangalore between 10:00 am to 5:00 pm by direct ballot. The results will be announced on 25 Jan 2020.

This Election is a historic one since the inception of KMC, It is being conducted across the state by direct voting by all the registered MBBS doctors of the state for 12 seats numbering more than 65000.

Our own city is being represented by Dr Divaker Rao a distinguished, unblemished Neurosurgeon of high repute currently working with KMC Mangalore at Government Wenlock Hospital since 35 years. He is also a recipient of the IMA Life Time Teacher award.

He has been a proud son of a great father late Dr A V Rao who was one of the first doctors of Mangalore city who practiced at Hoigebazar, incidentally, this year is his birth centenary.

He graduated from KMC Mangalore in 1978 and went on to do his MS in Surgery from KMC Manipal in 1982 and completed his super speciality training in Neurosurgery from Trivandrum Medical college in 1985. Since then he has been associated with KMC Mangalore and having served the poor of poor at Government Wenlock Hospital.

He is contesting as part of the Progressive Panel across the state with 12 other doctors for the 12 seats who belong to IMA. They have questioned the legality of Renewal of registration of doctors by KMC in the Honorable High Court and also filed a writ petition demanding election to the council which was delayed beyond the mandated 5 years. Dr Divaker Rao has teamed with Dr K S Karanth from Kundapura and Dr Honnegowda from Mysore for the Non-Teachers Consitutency of progressive.

This election has been marred by controversy with KMC declaring voters list with more than 45000 names missing which was questioned in the high court and an order to include was passed by the court WP 45080/2017 on 10 Jan 2020.

Dr Divaker Rao has been well supported by all the deans of the Medical college of the district, the IMA, AMC, FOGSI, CAO, ASI, IAP supported by his able campaign manager Dr Prakash Harischandra, Advisor Dr Srinivasa Kakkilaya, AMC President Dr Sandeep Rai and Senior Physician Dr Sudheendra Rao.

His campaign which has received an overwhelming response by the medical fraternity, his students, colleagues and well-wishers who have shown solidarity on the right choice for the Teacher constituency of Mysore Revenue Division.

Dakshina Kannada (Undivided) will see the right representation at the state medical council with Dr Divaker Rao’s Victory to the prestigious Council.
