Karnataka State Budget 2026-27 Poised to Usher in New Era of Development for Dakshina Kannada, Claims MLA Bhandary
Bengaluru: The 2026-27 State Budget, presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is poised to inject significant momentum into the economy and education sector of the Dakshina Kannada region, according to Legislative Council member Manjunath Bhandary. Following a thorough analysis of the budgetary provisions, Mr. Bhandary characterized the document as a forward-looking “development blueprint” rather than a mere compilation of financial figures and statistics.
Mr. Bhandary highlighted several key initiatives within the budget that he believes will catalyze progress in the Dakshina Kannada district. He particularly lauded the proposal to establish a modern “Centre of Excellence” for fisheries, recognizing the vital role fishing plays in the district’s economy. He stated that this initiative would provide invaluable support to fishermen through the integration of cutting-edge technology.
Further bolstering the region’s economic prospects, Mr. Bhandary pointed to the announcement of modern transport facilities, including seaplanes and heli-taxis, designed to stimulate coastal tourism. He expressed optimism that these developments would significantly elevate Mangaluru’s profile as an internationally recognized tourist destination.
In addition to economic development, the budget also addresses critical aspects of public safety and security. Mr. Bhandary welcomed the government’s decision to establish new police stations at Mani and Sajipanadu, strategically important areas within the Dakshina Kannada district. He emphasized that these additions would contribute to strengthening peace and law and order throughout the region.
“Mani and Sajipanadu in Bantwal taluk are geographically and administratively very important centres. Establishing police stations here has been a long-standing demand. Once these stations become operational, the public will receive quicker legal assistance, and it will help authorities keep a close watch on criminal activities,” Mr. Bhandary stated, underscoring the importance of this initiative for local communities.
As a prominent educationist himself, Dr. Bhandary also commended the budget’s focus on education and skill development. He emphasized the importance of equipping the district’s youth with not only academic qualifications but also the employment-oriented skills necessary to thrive in a competitive job market. He specifically highlighted the establishment of skill development centers in Mangaluru and the prioritization of artificial intelligence (AI)-based training as crucial steps in preparing young people for a successful future.
Mr. Bhandary further elaborated on key highlights of the budget, including:
- Modern Technology: The implementation of an AI Mission within state administration and the overall emphasis on technology, which will ensure Karnataka remains at the forefront of innovation.
- Connectivity Revolution: A special focus on highway and infrastructure development in the coastal region, designed to stimulate economic activities.
- Social Justice: Schemes specifically aimed at women’s empowerment and the welfare of backward communities, intended to strengthen social equality across the state.
“The government, by presenting a balanced budget, has demonstrated its commitment to the overall development of Dakshina Kannada. It will have a positive impact on the district’s industry, education, and tourism sectors,” Mr. Bhandary concluded in a press release, expressing his confidence in the budget’s potential to usher in a new era of prosperity for the region.
