Kaup: Four Arrested Within 24 Hours in Cattle Theft Case
Udupi: Police have arrested four persons in connection with an alleged attempt to transport cattle in a tempo after tying them in a cruel manner at Nadiguttu in Kalathur village. The tempo used in the incident and the cattle have been seized.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ummarabba (64), Mohammed Shareef (31), Shamsuddin (57) and Mohammed Aaseer (24), all residents of Kalathur village.
According to the complaint, at around 4 p.m. on September 19, Vasanti Sunitha Quadras had left her five cattle grazing in a field. When one of them, a two-year-old black-coloured animal, went missing, she began searching for it.
During the search, the missing cattle was found inside a nearby parked tempo. Another animal was also found in the vehicle, and both had allegedly been tied in a cruel manner.
Four persons, including Ummarabba, who was known to the complainant, were found near the tempo. On seeing the complainant, they allegedly drove away and fled from the spot.
Based on her complaint, Shirva Police registered a case.
Ummarabba was arrested on September 19 and produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The remaining accused, who had allegedly been absconding, were traced and arrested along with the vehicle at Koppalangadi in Kaup on September 20.
All four accused were arrested within 24 hours of the registration of the case.
The search operation was conducted under the leadership of Karkala Sub-Division Assistant Superintendent of Police Ishitha Gupta and Kaup Circle Inspector of Police Azmath Ali.
Shirva Police Station Sub-Inspector Manjunath Marabada, Padubidri Police Station Sub-Inspector Sakthivelu E., Anil Kumar T. Naik, Hebri Police Station Sub-Inspector Lohith Kumar, along with personnel from Shirva, Kaup and Padubidri police stations and staff from the CDR section of the Udupi District Police Office, participated in the operation.
