‘Kaushala 2017’- A Unique Seminar on Skill Development at Alva’s

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Prof. P Ramakrishna Chadaga- Dean, MBA at Alva’s Institute of Engineering and Technology said, ” Department of Business Administration-Alva’s Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mijar, Moodbidri will proudly organize a unique National Seminar on Skill Development Systems for Workforce, Engineers and Managers to be held at MBA Department at Alva’s in Mijar- Moodbidri on 21st and 22nd April, 2017. SME Student Contest, exclusively for the students (Designing Skill Module for Engineers) will be held on 20th April 2017. Around 500 delegates including the Industry delegates, Principals, research scholars and professors of various colleges are expected to attend this event. Named “Kaushala 2017”, this seminar aims to build up each participant’s overall understanding of the important area of Skill Development to professionals, academicians, research scholars, teachers, professors and students alike”.

“The National Seminar is also organizing a contest, preparatory to the Seminar on the title “Designing Skill Module for Engineers (SME)” for engineering students on 20-4-2017 from 9 AM at the Engineering Seminar Hall in Alva’s Institute of Engineering & Technology, Mijar, Moodbidri. The intention of this contest is to develop and design the Skill Module for Engineers (SME) for 5 streams, namely, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics and ICT (CSE/ISE/IT). The SME is a very important approach to design Skill Modules which would help the engineers to have better employability. The SME is designed for 5 streams and a minimum of 10 SME per stream has to be designed as per the template. Parallel sessions for each of the 5 engineering streams shall be organized for the presentation by various teams from participating colleges” added Prof. Chadaga.

He further said, ” The inauguration of the National Seminar is scheduled at 10.00 AM on 21st April at the MBA Seminar Hall, AIET-Mijar. Dr M Mohan Alva, Chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation, Prof Anil D Sahasrabhude, Hon’ble Chairman, AICTE, Dr Karisiddappa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, VTU, Belagavi, Dr Jagannath Reddy, Registrar, VTU, Belagavi, Mr S J Amalan, Director, Skill Development Center, VTU, Belagavi, Mr Vivek Alva, Managing Trustee, Alva’s Education Foundation will grace the inaugural function of the Seminar. The valedictory ceremony including Prize Distribution for SME contest winners will take place at 4 PM on 22-4-2017 at the MBA Department”. Prof. Dr Nagendra and Prof. Gurudatt Somayaji- the coordinators of the seminar were also present on the dais during the press meet.

Contest Structure:

Round 1:

-Presentation of the designed SME by teams from 9 AM onwards on 20-4-2017

– Top 5 teams will be selected, one from each of the 5 engineering streams (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics and ICT)

– The winning team will get prizes and certificates from VTU-SDC.

– Other teams will get participation certificate

Round 2:

– Presentation by the team on the designed SME (Top 5 teams ) during the Seminar on 21-4-2017 and announcement of award on 22-4-2017

Salient features of this Seminar:

– All Principals of VTU- affiliated engineers colleges are invited to attend along with student and faculty delegation

– Two faculty members from each VTU-affiliated colleges are invited to attend the seminar.

– Each student team, consisting of 3 members, are invited participate in SME Contest/Seminar.
