Keeper Navas also casts doubts over his future at Real Madrid

Madrid, June 12 (IANS) The uncertainty over the Real Madrid goalkeeping situation for next season looks likely to continue for the next few days at least.

Wednesday saw reports in the Spanish media that with the transfer of David de Gea from Manchester United close to being sealed, the club was close to reaching an agreement with Iker Casillas, 34, to allow him to leave after 17 seasons with the Spanish football giants and over 700 first team appearances, reports Xinhua.

Meanwhile, Kaylor Navas, who joined from Levante last summer has expressed doubts about his own future. The Costa Rican international was one of the heroes of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but only made a handful of appearances last season as former Real coach Carlo Ancelotti preferred Casillas for every big game.

“I have spoken with the club. Only God knows if I’ll continue,” said Navas on Thursday, ahead of Costa Rica’s friendly game against Spain in Leon.

“I hope I can stay with the squad and keep fighting for my dream, which is to be the first choice keeper,” he added.

De Gea’s likely arrival would make that unlikely and Navas made it clear he would not be happy with another year spent warming the subs’ bench.

“I’m not happy with what I have done so far at Real Madrid. Things didn’t turn out as I would have wanted last season,” he insisted.
