Killing people in the name of cow unacceptable, says Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed pain and anguish over rising cases of violent incidents in the country, especially in the name of cow protection.

“Do we get right to kill any human in name of protecting a cow. Is this cow protection? Is this service of cow?.. How are we losing control? Killing humans in name of cow is not correct,” Prime Minister said at an event held to commemorate 100 years of establishment of Sabarmati Ashram by Mahatma Gandhi in Ahmedabad.

He went on to say that in a country that believes in feeding insects, dogs and fishes, the killing of humans in name of cow protection must stop. “Whether a person is guilty or not is not for you to decide. Law is there and it will do its work. Humans have no right to take law in their hands,” he said getting emotional as he narrated an incident from his childhood.

Bapu’s country

“Is this my country. Is this country of Bapu. What are we doing?” he said adding that it was sad that people who indulge in violence in the name of cow protection were getting encouraged. He urged them to follow the path of Mahatma and Vinoba Bhave who personified cow protection.

“I would request people of the country that violence is not solution to the problems.

“ If you are aggrieved, legal system is in place,” Prime Minister said.

The prime minister was at Sabarmati Ashram to celebrate 100 years of the Ashram’s establishment and release coins and stamp in the name of Shrimad Rajchandraji, guru of Mahatma Gandhi.

The prime minister, who began his two-day visit to Gujarat on Thursday, also visited the museum at the Ashram and paid his homage to Mahatma.
