KMC Hospital, Attavar, Observes World Alzheimer’s Day with Dementia Awareness Programme
Mangaluru: KMC Hospital, Attavar, Mangaluru, observed World Alzheimer’s Day with an informative programme dedicated to raising awareness, promoting learning and encouraging collaboration in dementia care.
Titled “Dementia: Beyond Forgetfulness – Recognize Early, Understand Better, Care Together,” the programme brought together senior citizens, students and hospital staff to deepen their understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
The programme was jointly organised by the Departments of Geriatric Medicine, Neurology and Psychiatry, with moderation by the Department of General Medicine, offering participants valuable multidisciplinary perspectives on dementia care.
Expert sessions were delivered by Dr. Akshatha Rao, Assistant Professor, Department of Geriatric Medicine; Dr. Sharath PS, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology; and Dr. Keshav Pai, Professor, Department of Psychiatry.
The sessions focused on recognising early warning signs, understanding the progression of dementia, diagnosis and management, and the importance of compassionate, person-centred care. The programme was moderated by Dr. Kaushik SR, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine, who facilitated an engaging exchange of knowledge and perspectives.
The interactive sessions provided participants with an opportunity to learn from specialists, clarify their concerns, and develop a more comprehensive understanding of dementia and its impact on individuals and families.
The programme emphasised that dementia care extends beyond treating a disease. It also involves preserving dignity, supporting families and helping individuals lead meaningful lives for as long as possible.
Through this multidisciplinary initiative, KMC Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to raising awareness about dementia and promoting informed, compassionate and collaborative care for older adults and their families.
