KSRTC Bus Conductor Suicide case, Family members stage protest

Subramanya: After recovering the body of KSRTC bus conductor Devadas, his relatives along with the body of Devadas, staged a protest in front of the Kadaba police station, here on September 27.

The family members allege that, Devadas was taken to the Kadaba police station and assaulted by the police in connection with the complaint of not returning the change to a woman passanger.


On September 25, a woman was traveling in a KSRTC bus, from Mangaluru to Subramanya, she claimed to have paid Rs 500 for the ticket but did not receive the change from the conductor. She later started to argue with the conductor for the balance amount. While the conductor said that the woman had given him only a Rs 100. There was an exchange of words and the matter reached the police station in Kadaba.

The Kadaba police investigated the case, took Rs 400 from Devadas and gave the money to the woman. Hurt by the incident, Devadas wrote a death note on the log sheet and jumped to Kumaradhara river.

On September 27, at around 11:00 am, the body of Devadas was found two kilometers away from the spot where he had jumped into the River. After the post-mortem, family members and relatives took the body in an ambulance to the Kadaba police station and staged a protest.

ASP Rishyanth intervened and condoled the family and assured to take action against those responsible. After getting the assurance family members took the body for cremation.

Puttur rural circle inspector Anil Kulkarni, DCIB inspector Amanullah, Sullia Inspector Krishnayya, Sullia Sub Inspector Chandrashekhar, Sampya Sub Inspector Khader, Bantwal Traffic Sub-Inspector Rathan and others were also present.
