The association, said to be affiliated to the embassy of India in Kuwait, has been organizing religious and cultural programme for many years. But a Satyanarayana Puja was held with much fanfare, sources in NCWAK, Apparently it was regarded as profession idolatry, which is taboo in Islam.

Informed sources from Kuwait gave the names of those taken into custody as president Ashok Kumar and office-bearers Yadava Poojary, Anil Kumar, Prashant Shetty, Purushottam Kuckian, Arun Shetty, Umesh Shetty, Satish Beluvai and Kumar Vamanjoor,

The Indians taken into custody hail from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka. No information on their whereabouts and welfare is available to their family members. They have appealed to Union minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj to intervene in the matter.

Most Gulf countries prohibit formation of any groups or associations, by the expatriates in the least. However, under the aegis of embassies of India, some activities are allowed in some states.

It is being said here that care and discretion is a must when holding any activity by the expatriates in counties like the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  1. What a wonderful, peace loving civilization!! Intolerant societies like India has a lot to learn from these great civilizations!!

  2. “The officials are reported to have taken into custody nine functionaries of the Nava Chetana Welfare Association Kuwait (NCWAK), a body of non-resident Indians, for holding Shri Satyanarayana Puja in Kuwait”

Apparently the 9 people were taken into custody for performing prayers? So let’s wait and hear want went wrong from our learned Shaikh

  3. Bahrain is very liberal in this matter. if one has to rank the GCC countries according to liberties in such matters–it will be Bahrain>Oman>UAE>Qatar>Kuwait >Saudi Arabia, in descending order. One should know this prior to one’s employment in these countries.

    • Dear Dr. Sunil J. Rao,

You are very right, doctor. Bahrain and Oman are the best countries as far as social life, human rights and liberties are concerned. However, Oman is a beautiful land, considering that a family can go on holidays every week-end in that vast land. I was fortunate to be in Bahrain, where people of all faiths, including Jews, live happily. There are mosques, temples, churches and burial and cremation grounds.

Saud Arabia is the worst. A dead man was given the option by God to go to hell or, if he wishes, Saudi Arabia. He opted for hell. Saudi Arabia is so bad, unless one is an illiterate clergy, a religious fanatic or a drunkard, gambler, etc. who cannot be refirned or if a man is living downtown in a given Saudi town and is only interested in working, eating sleeping and performing prayers and having no other interests or hobbies in life.

Amazing! A country awash with petro-dollars having primitive mentality. That is why Saudis, when they go outside, they drink like a fish, smoke like a chimney, run after women, some of them go to Egypt and other places and molest male teenagers, consume narcotics, etc.

In Saudi Arabia, there are no human rights, freedom of worship, no free press, sham courts that are run under Sharia laws (amazing, considering that we are living in the 21st century and not in ancient or medieval times).

  4. How come taqiyya expert Sharia Shaikh is too busy to comment on this ? His fraternity cries for more minority rights all over the world. However, why is it that the minorities are treated this way in the ‘peaceful’ belt that stretches from Morocco to Kashmeera ? Is it justified in his religious doctrine? Well, we all know the answer – this is just an attempt to see what kind of excuse he will come up with to justify this 7th century tribal hatred.

  5. You cannot compare secular country with non secular to divert topic of intolerance.
Being secular and indulging in intolerance is a grave danger than being non secular and indulging in the same.
People should know this better…Yes. This is Original!

  6. Rohan D means — human beings who are created by same God to be treated differently according to the place!! No wonder this same practice of total intolerance is dividing the world . Even very tolerant countries of Europe are closing their border to Islamic refugees.
However these rich Gulf countries are not ready to take their own people- what a shame!!

  7. “You cannot compare secular country with non secular to divert topic of intolerance” – some Roshan D’Souza

This guy is a classic example of a typical Congress supporter. If he had any idea, he would have asked why is it that the ‘peaceful’ belt is not secular while rest of the world is!! That’s the point I’m trying to drive home here. How come the same ‘peaceful’ people demand more rights while denying ‘equal rights’ to others? Why are our self-hating community and crony-secular community show different standards for different communities? As Bill Maher put it, this is the soft bigotry of low expectations!!

  8. Saudi forbids Christian sounding or similar names !!!-Mr.Mango Man

Sir,You already have beautiful name from ‘Re-namkaran’ is this really bothering. Are you planning to revert to Islam to have one the banned names?

    Jai hind
