Life on a Houseboat: Murray River

Imagine being on your own floating home doing what you like. Gloriously independent. In blissful privacy holidaying on the mighty Murray River as it meanders through changing landscapes past wetlands laden with wildlife and fertile forests.

The Murray River, 2.5 hrs drive from Melbourne, Australia is comfortably flowing between the states of Victoria and New South Wales in the township of Echuca-Moama. Echuca ? Moama is aptly called Australia’s Paddlesteamer capital. One will get to pass by some paddle streamer boats along the river.

The drive from Melbourne itself is an exhilarating feeling. Long stretches of grasslands, mountain-tops covered with clouds, acres of vineyards, the world’s largest red gum forest, and some ‘pick your own strawberries’ farms. One will love it all.

The houseboats are an experience of home far away from home. With ultra modern, architecturally and interior designed modern facilities including: Air Conditioning, Heating, Fridges, TV – DVD/ Video Player, Dishwasher, Laundry / Washing Machine, "Hush" Power Generator, BBQ, Spa, Sun Lounges, well equipped kitchen, Dining Table, Carpet, Outdoor Furniture, ensuite with Queen size cot & mattress etc? Name it, the houseboat has it!

All you need to take along is big proportions of food & ingredients and drinks ?One can be involved in the kitchen yet enjoy the beauty of nature – moving like a trance. When the day light fades away, generous portions of BBQ’ed meat & voluminous gulps of alcohol would suit the lounged body.

A two day stay on the Murray River between the tranquility of nature, makes one conclude:  "Nature is more perfect than anything man can create"
