Lightning Causes Death, Damage and Injury

Mangaluru: Rains hit many parts of the undivided district on Wednesday and Thursday. A life was lost, many homes and property were damaged and a few persons injured.

Narayana Devadiga (55), resident of temple locality in Belmannu village, died after his house was hit by lightning.

In Paraneer of Shaninagar of 34 Nekkilady village near Uppinangady, a house belonging to Taniya was struck by lightning after a palm tree nearby. His children Pavitra, Ganesh, Sachin and Satish were injured as a result.

In Mulki, the house of Benny D’Silva of Kammaje was damaged to the extent of Rs 1.50 lakh. The electric meter caught fire and walls have cracked.

In Kirem-Aikala church, the priest’s room was hit and records were damaged. In Kuttettur-Kenha off Suratkal, Krishna Shetty’s house was hit and heavy damage was caused.

Reports have been received from many other rural areas.
