Lokayukta Raids Belur Gram Panchayat Office Over Complaints on Building Permits, Administration

Udupi: Lokayukta officials raided the Belur Gram Panchayat office in Kundapur taluk on Thursday and inspected records following complaints from the public regarding delays in issuing building permits and other matters related to the functioning of the panchayat administration.

A team led by Lokayukta DySP Halamurthy Rao and Inspector Manjunath visited the panchayat office and examined records and administrative documents related to the Gram Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) and other staff. The officials gathered information on the process of issuing building permits, the disposal of applications, and the measures the panchayat took to provide services to the public.

The complaint reportedly alleges that around 400 applications were collected from villagers after assurances were allegedly given during the election period that house sites would be provided. In this connection, Lokayukta officials examined the nature of the applications, the supporting documents, and the procedures the panchayat followed.

The Lokayukta team also visited stone quarries within the Belur Gram Panchayat’s jurisdiction and conducted on-site inspections. The officials gathered information about the permissions and documents related to the quarries, as well as the action the panchayat took within its jurisdiction.

The inspection was carried out based on complaints received from the public. The officials are examining the panchayat’s records and collecting relevant information. Further clarity regarding the allegations mentioned in the complaint and the next course of action is expected after the inspection is completed.
