Man detained after video of assault on woman at Ghaziabad mall goes viral
New Delhi: Police have detained a man after a video purportedly showing him assaulting a woman inside a mall in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district went viral on social media, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the Ghaziabad Police, the incident took place at Jaipuria Mall in the Indirapuram area. The video, which surfaced on social media on Tuesday evening, showed a man and a woman involved in a heated altercation, during which the man allegedly assaulted the woman.
After the video gained widespread attention online, the Indirapuram Police launched an immediate investigation to verify the incident and identify those involved.
During the inquiry, police confirmed that the incident had occurred at Jaipuria Mall and found that the man and the woman were already acquainted with each other. Officials said the altercation stemmed from a personal dispute between the two, which escalated into physical violence.
Following the preliminary investigation, the Indirapuram Police registered a case against the accused under the relevant provisions of law and took him into custody. Authorities said further legal proceedings are underway.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Indirapuram, Suryabali Maurya said police acted promptly after taking cognisance of the viral video circulating on social media.
“The viral video was immediately examined, following which the incident was verified. A case has been registered under the relevant legal provisions, and the accused has been taken into custody. Further legal action is being carried out,” the ACP said in a statement released through the police media cell.
Police have not disclosed the identities of either the accused or the woman involved, and no further details regarding the nature of their relationship have been made public.
Officials also urged people to avoid spreading unverified claims or edited clips related to the incident on social media, stating that the investigation is being conducted based on available evidence and statements. The police said they would continue with the legal process in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
