Man Rescued After Falling into Well and Underground Tunnel in Moodbidri
Moodbidri: A 38-year-old man was successfully rescued from an underground tunnel in Puttige village of Moodbidri taluk on Wednesday night, following an arduous operation by Fire and Emergency Services personnel. Radhakrishna, son of Janappa Gowda of Puttige, was reportedly trapped after accidentally falling into a well and subsequently slipping into an adjacent underground tunnel.
The incident occurred at Bangla in Puttige village. Radhakrishna fell into the 30-foot-deep well, and the impact of the fall caused him to slide into a 20-foot-deep underground tunnel connected to the well. This presented significant challenges for the rescue team.
The rescue operation was spearheaded by Karkala Fire Station Chief Chandrashekhar. The team, facing darkness and the complexities of the underground tunnel network, worked for approximately two hours to extricate Radhakrishna. Fire personnel Jaya Mulya and Roopesh descended into the well to reach the trapped man, while Nithyananda and Basavaraj provided crucial support from above.
Radhakrishna was successfully brought to the surface in the early hours of Thursday. He was reported to be safe following the rescue.
Sources indicate that the Karkala fire station was called in to assist due to staffing limitations at the Moodbidri fire station.
Local representatives, including Puttige Gram Panchayat member Dinesh Kumar (Padu Jogeri) and former Puttige Panchayat president Praveen Shetty, also contributed to the rescue efforts. Their cooperation was acknowledged as instrumental in the successful outcome of the operation.
