Mangalore Bicycle Club Holds Sunday Beach Ride to Mark ‘World Bicycle Day’

Mangaluru: Members of the Mangalore Bicycle Club, along with members of Cycling Buddies, celebrated World Bicycle Day on June 2, 2019, by pedaling a distance of 25 kilometers in an attempt to create awareness on the significant role that cycling plays in the world.

The objective was to communicate that cycling is a sustainable, clean, affordable, and environmentally friendly form of commutation towards a healthier tomorrow. It’s their second year of celebrating World Bicycle Day, and members of the MbC (as well as Cycling Buddies) will continue promoting cycling as a healthy lifestyle option that can take care of the general well-being of the people.

The ride for the day began with 30 members assembling at 6 am near Ladyhill Circle and pedaling a stretch of 25 kilometers through the city and along the beach route. Dijaraj Nair, President Mangalore Bicycle Club, Srikantha Raja, Vice President Mangalore Bicycle Club, and other members of MbC and Cycling Buddies joined the ride.

Since its inception in 2011. MbC has adopted many environment-friendly initiatives that are aimed at reducing carbon footprints, and it also observes Car-free Days to set an example to everyone else. MbC has been creating an impression in the minds of Mangaloreans and has won the attention of many civic bodies for their many initiatives and overall contribution to society.

On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, MbC promised to take cycling to a different level so that people will take up the activity without any prejudices, and thereby a larger number of citizens can adopt this eco-friendly mode of transportation for the sake of their own healthy well-being as well as the world’s well-being at large.
