Mangalore Police Commissioner Assures Transparent Investigation in Suhas Shetty and Ashraf Murder Cases
Mangalore: Mangalore Police Commissioner Sudheer Reddy has assured the public of a transparent and evidence-based investigation into the Suhas Shetty murder case in Bajpe and the Ashraf murder case in Kudupu.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Police Commissioner’s office, Reddy provided a comprehensive overview of the police’s investigative efforts in both cases, emphasizing the reliance on scientific evidence and urging the public to come forward with any information they may possess.
Regarding the Suhas Shetty case, which has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Commissioner Reddy clarified that the police are continuing their investigation into the Ashraf case. He stated that over 100 individuals have been interrogated thus far, and he urged the public to refrain from harboring doubts or suspicions about the police investigation. Instead, he implored citizens to directly provide any evidence they may have, reiterating that no one is above the law and that all evidence will be carefully considered. He cautioned against spreading misinformation or engaging in activities that could mislead the investigation, warning that such actions would be met with legal consequences.
Commissioner Reddy addressed specific concerns raised by social circles regarding the Suhas Shetty case, including suspicions about the planning of the murder, the alleged involvement of two women in assisting the accused to escape, and the limited number of arrests made despite the presence of numerous individuals in CCTV footage. He affirmed that all types of evidence have been considered and investigated, including the route taken by Suhas Shetty’s car, the presence of onlookers who had gathered to observe a prior accident, and the vehicle that followed Shetty. He also stated that information regarding these suspicions has been shared with relevant parties through video records.
Turning to the Ashraf murder case, Commissioner Reddy revealed that the police were able to identify the accused based on slippers and shoes found near the deceased’s photograph. He acknowledged that some individuals were playing cricket nearby while the attack was taking place, but clarified that their mere presence did not implicate them as suspects. The investigation is primarily based on the statements of the main accused. Reddy also acknowledged initial lapses made by the police in the case, stating that appropriate action had been taken against the officers involved. He reiterated that the case is being thoroughly investigated based on scientific evidence.
Commissioner Reddy extended an invitation to anyone with evidence related to the Ashraf case to come forward, stating that he would remain in office for two more days to receive information.
Furthermore, Commissioner Reddy addressed the issue of social media posts that raise objections or suspicions about police operations without providing concrete evidence. He stated that such posts would be subject to notice and inquiry, emphasizing that speculation without evidence is not permissible under the law. He concluded by reaffirming the police’s commitment to protecting the safety of all citizens of Mangalore and ensuring justice is served. “It is the duty of us, the police, to protect the safety of all citizens of Mangalore and to provide justice. We will fulfill it,” he declared.
