Mangalore prodigy 6 1/2-year-old Tiara wins State Chess Championship

Mangaluru: We are pleased to inform you that Derik’s Chess School prodigy 6 1/2-year-old Tiara Amanda Gonsalves has won the Karnataka state Under 7 girls chess championship held at Tumkur from 25th to 27th May 2018 under the aegis of UKCA.

Tiara scored 6 points in 7 rounds and bettered her nearest rival with good tiebreak points to clinch the first place. With this feat, she is selected to represent Karnataka in the National Under 7 Girls championship to be held during July at Tumkur.

Tiara’s this achievement hasn’t come as surprise as she had bagged many titles of age groups in recent open tournaments. Tiara is studying in 2nd standard, Mount Carmel School, Mangalore and is the daughter of Dr Michael Gonsalves and Dr Sharmila Roche from Shivbagh, Kadri.

DCS talents Rudra Rajeev and Shraddha Rai (both in 2nd standard Lourdes Central School) also delivered impressive performances by scoring 5 points each and secured 5th and 7th respectively.
