Mangaluru: Bajpe Police Arrest Three in Chain Snatching Cases

Mangaluru: The Bajpe police, under the able leadership of Inspector T D Nagaraj, arrested a gang of 3 persons involved in 5 chain snatching cases, from Pumpwell and Thokkottu here, on December 11.

The arrested have been identified as Subramanya (36), a resident of Sultan Battery, Umesh (48) from Thokkottu and Manikanta (32) from Adamkudru.

According to sources, all the three were using a tempo to commit the crimes, they were targeting senior citizens. They would scout for potential targets using the tempo. When they would see any lone women wearing gold and walking on the road, they would stop the tempo and ask the victim for directions. When the targets were busy directing the way, they would snatch the gold ornaments and flee from the spot.

Six cases were registered, with one each in Mulky, Kadri, Bantwal Rural and North police stations and 2 in Bajpe. The police arrested all the three persons and seized 64 grams of gold, one scooter and a tempo, all valued at Rs 6 lakh from their possession.

All the three were produced before the court where they were remanded to 15 days of judicial custody. The operation was carried out under the able guidance of police commissioner S Murugan, DCP of Crime Dr Sanjeev Patil by Bajpe police inspectorNagaraj along with PSI Ramesh Hanapura, ASI Sukumar and staff Chandramohan, Dayanand, Ramachandra, Bharat, Shasi and Murthi.
