Mangaluru: The Mangalore Bar Association staged a protest in the court premises demanding the arrest of Kadri Inspector T D Nagaraj here, on August 5.
Addressing the protesters, president of the Mangalore Bar Association S P Chengappa said that on July 31, young advocate Utham Kumar Rai was assaulted by Inspector Nagaraj at the police station when he was attending with his client in a legal case. “In this connection, we had filed an FIR against the Inspector and also demanded his suspension. According to that, the Commissioner had issued the suspension order and we welcome this move. We congratulate the Commissioner for taking the right step, but are demand has not yet been fulfiled. Inspector Nagaraj has not been arrested yet and the bar association condemns this.”
He further said that the bar association demands that the Inspector be brought in the purview of law and he should be arrested. “We have respected the law and produced Utham Kumar before the court. We have surrendered Utham Kumar and taken bail. Similarly, the Inspector should be produced before the court and should take bail or else, he should be arrested.”
“If the concerned authorities do not take any action, we will be constrained to take necessary legal steps,” he added.
Vice President of Mangalore Bar Association Yashodhar Karkera, General Secretary Raghavendra H V, Treasurer Yatheesha, advocates Utham Kumar Rai, Raghavendra, Sumana Sharan and others were also present.
