Mangaluru: BJP Yuva Morcha celebrated the 91st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by organizing a blood donation camp at the BJP district office, Kodialbail here, on December 28.

MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik inaugurated the blood donation camp by lighting the traditional lamp. Speaking on this occasion, Capt Ganesh said that blood was a precious commodity and blood donation was a divine work as it saved precious lives. “When you donate blood to a person in need, his entire family is indebted to you. They will never forget you for the deed, instead they will remember you as the one who gave a new life to their loved one,” he said.

He said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee lead a life of simplicity. “He would speak to everyone in the party and never differentiated anyone based on a rank. We must seek inspiration from such a great personality,” Capt Ganesh added.

“When the party lost the general election in 2004, Atal Bihari Vajpayee predicted the rise of the party. We have seen the evidence of that in the past months after we won the election in 2014. To ensure that 2004 results are not repeated again, the party members should spread awareness of the development work done by the party for the common man,” Capt Ganesh said, addressing the party members present.

KMC Hospital Blood Bank Officer, Dr Deepa Adiga also spoke on this occasion. She said, “For every three seconds, a unit of blood is needed. Blood donation is the only safe way to achieve this feat as we cannot manufacture blood in the laboratories. Since blood has a shelf life of 30-32 days, blood donation should be a continuous process. It can be done by any person between the age group of 18 and 60 with no diseases or recent history of major and minor surgeries.”

After the inaugural function, Capt Ganesh Karnik and other BJP members donated their blood. A team of doctors from KMC Blood Bank was present at the venue. An estimated 125-200 units of blood are expected to be collected at the camp. The blood donation camp was open to all donors till the evening of December 28.

District President of BJP Yuva Morcha, Ranjan Gowda and others were also present on this occasion.
