Mangaluru: Bogus Facebook Account Impersonating City Police Commissioner Surfaces

Mangaluru: Authorities in Mangaluru have initiated an investigation into the creation of a fraudulent Facebook account bearing the name of City Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy. The spurious profile, detected in recent days, had already garnered approximately nine connections before its existence was brought to the Commissioner’s attention.

Commissioner Reddy promptly reported the impersonation incident to the relevant cybercrime authorities, triggering an immediate inquiry. Initial assessments indicate that the individual responsible for the counterfeit account had implemented privacy restrictions, impeding the ability to readily ascertain the extent and nature of the account’s activities.

Law enforcement officials have issued a public advisory, urging citizens to exercise heightened vigilance and caution. The public is specifically cautioned against engaging with or responding to any dubious or unsolicited communications originating from such deceptive accounts. The police department is actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrator responsible for the creation and maintenance of the fake profile, emphasizing the gravity with which they view acts of online impersonation, particularly those involving public officials. The investigation is ongoing.
