Mangaluru: Sandesh D’Souza, who was working as a branch manager in Tata AIG Insurance company in Mangaluru, has been missing for some time. He is wanted in a case involving breach of trust and cheating.

Ever since the JMFC 2 court ordered that all property belonging to him be seized, he has gone into hiding.

Malathi (name changed), a graduate from another district, worked as a business development manager under Sandesh D’Souza. When they were working in the same company, Sandesh befriended Malathi. He also assured to marry her if she would convert to his faith.

Malathi belonged to a rich family. Being a newcomer to the district, she did not know that Sandesh was a married man. She stayed alone as a paying guest while she worked in the city. He got her to trust him to the core and believe that he was very faithful and trustworthy.

After receiving all of Malathi’s personal details, Sandesh borrowed Rs 10 lakh from her with an assurance of returning it within two months of time. After two months (in March 2009), when Malathi asked Sandesh to return her money, he assured to give Rs 10 lakh in cash and took her to Hotel Pegasus.

He forced her to drink beer and then took her to the beach at 8.30 pm and raped her in the car. He also threatened her life if she revealed the incident to anyone, and that she would lose all her money.

Malathi was afraid of his threat and was also in fear that she may lose all her savings if she revealed the truth. Later, Sandesh gave her 60 instalment cheques of HDFC bank amounting to Rs 10 lakh. She presented the cheques every month to the bank on the due dates. She received only Rs 1,41,661 and the rest of them all bounced on presentation for reason of insufficient funds.

Later, Malathi filed a complaint in the police station and a private complaint in the court against Sandesh. The court ordered seizure of all his property and issued a warrant in the rape and fraud case. Since then, Sandesh D’Souza has been absconding and the court has ordered the police to issue a public notice to trace him.

So far, the arrest has not been made. Malathi has also sent a memorandum to the State Women’s Commission, director general of police and the home minister to arrest Sandesh. Now, she is all alone and without any family as she has lost her mother. She has been running from pillar to post for justice.

  1. Something smells… Sandesh should be arrested to know the truth.

The course of natural justice is always inclined towards females, the same reason used as a tool sometimes to settle personal scores.

  2. This guy has some serious issues. He may be having troubles with his wife as well. As to Maalathi, adults can’t blame each other for what they voluntarily did in their privacy. However, not returning the money is strong enough of a case to go after this guy and see what’s going on.

  3. Cheaters are cheaters, no mercy for them. However, court ordered seizure of property for defrauding just Rs.10 lakhs. Whereas, the blade finance companies cheated public for crores or rupees and they still holding and enjoying all their property. Why this double standard?
