Addressing the mediapersons, Nalin Kumar Kateel said that after the state government led bySiddaramaiah announced the celebration of Tipu Jayanti, there were protests from various organizations. Christian organizations also protested against the celebration. Nalin also alleged that Tipu had destroyed 25 Christian churches in the coastal area. But the state government was adamant and celebrated the birth anniversary of Tipu on November 10, even though his birth date is on November 20.
Nalin further said that in Islam, people do not celebrate birthdays. “Then how come the government celebrated Tipu’s birthday and why did the Muslims not have any objection?” he questioned. “The state government is creating communal violence in the name of Tipu Jayanti.”

“November 10, in Madekeri, no permission was given to hold protests or processions. But people from Kerala came in a procession, celebrated Tipu Jayanti and pelted stones on the protesters who were against it. There was a commotion and clashes erupted between the groups, in which VHP leader Kuttappa died after being hit by stones. The chief minister in his statement said that the Kuttappa did not die of lathi charge or stone pelting but because he fell while running.”
Nalin blamed CM Siddaramaiah for the death of VHP leader Kuttappa. “We will file a case inKuttappa’s death and the CM must be the first accused in this case because Siddaramaiah is the one who announced the celebration of Tipu Jayanti which lead to this.”

Recalling the statement by veteran playwright, actor and litterateur, Girish Karnad to rename the Bengaluru airport as Tipu Sultan Airport, Nalin said, “The statement was given by the CM through Girish Karnad. After knowing that there is strong opposition in celebrating Tipu Jayanti, the state government did not take any action. The police allowed the people from Kerala to celebrate Tipu Jayanti in Madikeri which led to the death of the VHP leader and the BJP strongly condemns this. A thorough investigation should be done in Kuttappa’s death case and CM Siddaramaiah should held responsible for all the untoward incidents which took place on November 10. The government should announce Rs 25 lakh compensation to Kuttappa’s family.”

He also alleged that Siddaramaiah is pleasing the minority community to stay in power. “In Kuttappa’s death case, the state government did not act in a responsible way. To wake the Congress government, we have called for a Bundh on November 13. We asked all our party workers to observe a peaceful bundh. If any untoward incident takes place the state government and CM Siddaramaiah will be directly responsible,” he said.

He also said that the Jana Sankalpa yatre had been postponed to November 14 and will be inaugurated at 8.30 am in Subramanya.

Pratapa Simha Nayak, K Sulochana Bhat, Monappa Bhandary, Capt Ganesh Karnik, VikasPuttur, Devdas Shetty and others were also present.
