Mangaluru: DK Admin to hold National-level ‘Jala Sahasa Shibhira’ for Rovers and Rangers

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner, AB Ibrahim held a press meet at his office near State Bank here, on January 25.

Addressing the mediapersons, Ibrahim said that a national level ‘Jala Sahasa Shibhira – 2016’ for Rovers and Rangers (R & R), a senior division of Scouts and Guides will be held at the sea near Mulki and in river Shambhavi. “The five day programme will commence from January 27,” he added.

About 250 students from all over the country are expected to attend the programme. “It is the first time that a national level training programme will be held in the district. Internationally recognized Mantra surf club will provide training on adventurous water sports to the students,” Ibrahim said.

Students will be trained to provide safety to the general public while dealing with natural calamities arising due to water bodies.

“Students will follow a routine that begins early morning at 5 am, which will include yoga, meditation, exercise and religious prayer. Following which students will take part in beach cleaning activities as a part of swachh bharat. There will be knowledgeable sessions which will include cultures of the Tulunadu region, culture of Karnataka and other traditions. Cultural programmes by local students will be held daily,” said Ibrahim.

The programme will be held with the help of local association of R & R, welcome committee, various governmental departments and donors.

Students will be stationed at both the railway stations to provide information to the students coming from the foreign states. 1000 Scouts and Guides will be attending to watch the programme which will be inaugurated at 3:30 pm on January 27 and will conclude at 3:30 pm on January 30.

Karavali Gaurava Prashasti:

Ibrahim said, “The Karavali Gaurava Prashasti will be conferred on Director of Vishwas Trust, Dr Olinda Pereira for her special contribution in the field of social services.”

Dr Olinda was born on 15 August 1925 and has served in the education and social service, from the past 60 years and has also directed many youths in the direction of social service. She served as the Principal of ‘School of Social Work,’ from 1961 to 1984. Her association has worked towards the development of women and children. She was a member of State Women’s Committee and has various other achievements. ‘Understanding children, adjustment and its correlates among pre-adolescents, domestic workers struggle’ are some of the topics of her writings.

“Dr Olinda will be honoured with the award at Karavali Utsav stage near Kadri Park at 6:30 pm on January 26,” Ibrahim said.

Sarvotthama Seva Prashasti:

“Sarvotthama Seva Prashasti is a district level award and is awarded to the government employees who have given exceptional service in their fields. The award will be bestowed on six government employees at Nehru Maidan on January 26, Republic day by the District Minister in-charge, B Ramanth Rai,” Ibrahim said.

The recipients of the award are, P Sridhar from the Forest Department, Ravichandra A, Dean at SP’s Office, B Hyder Ali from the DC’s Office, Prabhakar from the DC’s Office, Manjula from ZP and Ramesh from the Horticulture Department.

ADC Kumar, Scouts and Guides Local Association Chairman, Sarvotham, M G Mohan and others were also present.
