Mangaluru: The relatives of Isubu Madoor, who was killed in a clash at the district sub jail on November 2, demanded compensation from the government.
All the relatives and family members had gathered in large numbers at the Wenlock hospital morgue and demanded justice with the concerned authorities.
The relatives even stopped press photographers from clicking photographs of the deceased. When the photographers did not heed their request and clicked photographs, friends and well wishers of the deceased stopped them. They said that they did not want any photographs; instead, they want justice and that the deputy commissioner should visit the mortuary and announce compensation.
Later, police commissioner S Murugan visited the mortuary and met the family members. Isubu’s brothers spoke to the police commissioner and said, “Our brother was working in a gulf country. But the police arrested and jailed him and now he has been killed in the jail. It is the duty of the government to announce compensation to the family. Until we do not get an assurance, we will not take the body from here.”
Murugan convinced the family members of the situation and assured to investigate the case. Later, the family members agreed to take the body for the last rites.
DCP of Crime Shantharaju, DCP of Law and Order Dr Sanjeev Patil and other police officials also visited the morgue. There was tight security in and around the mortuary.
