Mangaluru: Additional Director General of Police (Administration) Alok Mohan held a press meet at the Police Commissioner’s office here, on November 3.
Addressing the mediapersons, Alok Mohan said that 5 people have been involved in the murder of Madoor Isubu in the district sub-jail premises on November 2.
When asked how the inmates gained access to lethal weapons inside the jail, Alok Mohan said that the investigations in this regard are going on. “The weapons came from outside and we are investigating the case. So far, we have not recovered any weapons. There is a huge tree adjacent to the boundary of the jail. There is a possibility of dropping weapons at that spot through the compound wall,” he added.
When asked on the number of injuries on Isubu’s body, Alok Mohan said that there were 40 stab wounds on Isubu’s body while no stab marks were found on Ganesh Shetty’sbody. Ganesh may have died due to the use of a blunt weapon or due to head injuries. Both Ganesh Shetty and Madoor Isubu were in different cells.
When enquired about the direct allegation by an undertrail about a jail officer bringing weapons inside the jail, Alok replied that the an investigation is going on. “Those who were involved in the crime, directly or indirectly, will be punished. If the jail officers are involved in the murder case, they will be severely punished. The truth will come out. Anyone can put allegations, but until and unless the truth is out, we cannot blame anyone. So far, we have not found any weapons. We are trying to find out the weapons using metal detectors.”
“So far, we have booked 5 people who have executed the whole crime and we are looking for the involvement of others, both inside and outside the jail. When Madoor Isubu was walking in the morning, he was attacked by the undertrails. The jail is a safe place and such incidents should not have happened. This attack was pre-planned; the investigation is underway to find out the involvement of outsiders. In the old cell, there are no CCTV camera’s but yes in the new block, we have installed CCTV cameras.”
Alok Mohan also said that the AGDP of Prison Kamal Panth is investigating the case. “We have formed a high level committee to investigate the case and the police commissioner himself is monitoring the case.”
When asked about the number of attackers, Alok said that the prison department and police department are two different entities. “Are you safe in Mangaluru or not?” he questioned to the reporters. The reporters replied and said, “We are not safe”. He assured to have tight security in Mangaluru. When asked of the fate of the tree over the prison wall, Alok said, “You see it next week.”
IGP Amrit Paul, Police commissioner S Murugan, SP Dr Sharanappa, DCP of Crime Dr Sanjeev Patil and DCP of Law & Order Shantharaj were also present.
