Addressing the mediapersons, Poojary said that the state government distributes rice to the poor at Rs 1. “Congress party workers should see that the rice is being distributed to the poor on time.” He further said that on April 24, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will reach Mangaluru and visit Ullal Durgah to take part in the Uroos festival.
“The CM should announce Ullal Durga as a tourist destination because after the Ajmer Dargah, Ullal Dargah is the second holy place in India. People from all walks of life come here. The prayers of those who go there and pray are answered.” He also said that when Mangaluru is being developed, the Ullal Dargah also needs to be developed as it will help improve our economy. “When Ullal Dargah will be announced as a tourist destination, people will come from around the world to visit the Dargah. Poojary further stressed and said, “Ullal Dargah is involved in a number of social service activities. They give education to the poor students through their institutions. Religious programmes are also held and they train the youth to be good citizens. People from all walks of life in and around Mangaluru attend the Uroos. We have the Subramanya Temple, Sri Dharmasthala, Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, Kollur Temple and Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple as tourist destinations which are visited by people from all around the world. Tourism Minister Deshpande should send a request letter to the Prime Minister to make Ullal Dargah a tourist destination.”
When asked about the disappearance of Rahul Gandhi for 56 days, Poojary said that it is the Media that criticized Rahul Gandhi. “When the media is criticizing, one should take it positively and correct his/her mistakes. It was because of the advise from the media that Rahul Gandhi had responded and met the farmers and landless labourers who wanted abrogation of the land acquisition bill.
Poojary blamed the BJP government and said, “To please the corporate world, they have brought the land acquisition bill.” Poojary challenged and said “I will not allow the bill to be implemented. If the Union government will implement the land acquisition bill, I will take the lead in Mangaluru and stage a protest.”
Congress leader P V Mohan, Vijay Kumar Shetty, former Mayor Mahabala Marla and others were also present.
