Mangaluru: The Manipal College of Dental Sciences (MCODS), Mangaluru, a constituent college of Manipal University, will be organizing a 6 day hands-on international workshop in association with The Korean Orthodontic Research Institute, said the Dean of MCODS Dr Dilip G Naik at a press meet held at the Press Club here, on June 13.

The program, organised by the Department of Orthodontics, MCODS Mangaluru, is a first of its kind in India conducted under the guidance of Dr Jae Hyung Sung, Professor at the Kyungpook National University, Korea with 8 Korean specialists in Tweed-Edgewise orthodontics.

“It will be a six day intense workshop which will enable participants to deliver world-class treatment results to their patients. The international event marks another achievement for the college and I am looking forward to facilitate more international programs. The training for this technique is given only at two institutes in the world, Arizona US and South Korea, and will be beneficial to the attending orthodontists in India. The Korean specialists are coming purely to share knowledge. They are not charging any courses fees or even expenses for their travel,” said Dr Dilip.

The Tweed-Merrifield Edgewise technique is one of the techniques used by orthodontists to align and straighten teeth and help to position them with regard to a person’s bite, while also working to improve dental health. While this technique also uses wires, it produces outstanding results in terms of occlusion and facial profile and the stability of the treatment is better, i.e. there are no chances of relapse.

The Head of Department, Dr Siddarth Shetty said that the course will be extremely intensive and participation is restricted to a select batch of 32 orthodontists. The participants will be from all over India. The program will be held from June 15th to June 20th, 2015 at the MCODS, Attavar in the city after the inaugural ceremony.

The inaugural ceremony will be held at 9.30 am at Lecture Hall 1, MCODS, Attavar on 15th June, 2015. Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University (MU), Dr Vinod Bhat will be the chief guest and the Pro Vice Chancellor of MU, Dr V Surendra Shetty will be the guest of honour.
