Mangaluru: Minister for Environment, Ecology and Forests, B Ramanath Rai held a press meet at the District Congress Office here, on December 22.

Addressing the mediapersons, Ramanath Rai said, “Congress is a people friendly party. When UPA was in power, several development schemes were introduced like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and National Horticulture Mission.”

Ramanath Rai further said, “In 2002, the Karnataka government under former Chief Minister S M Krishna had introduced the 94CC bill in Karnataka Land Revenue Act. Dakshina Kannada district is the biggest benefactor of the 94CC amendment. Further, the Congress party is also committed to reduce prices of essential commodities.”

“I appeal to all the voters to elect candidates fielded by Congress for the upcoming MLC elections on December 27,” he said.

When asked about the rebel candidates, Ramanath Rai said, “JP Hegde carried out all the development work through the Congress party. When he submitted his nomination, we never threatened him, but only asked him to step down in a polite way.”

Speaking about Prathapchandra Shetty, the candidate fielded by Congress, Ramanath Rai said, “He never demanded a ticket; he deserved it. He is not a corrupt politician. He is so honest that whenever he goes to a panchayat office, he will even pay the money for his coffee.”

MLC Ivan Dsouza also spoke and said that all Congress members will stage a protest at every panchayat in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts between 10.00 am – 10.30 am on December 23 against the National Herald Case on Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.

District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, Chairman of MUDA Ibrahim Kodijal and others were also present.

  1. JP Hegde will carry out development as well work where ever he goes regardless any party ! it is not party matter , it is an individuals effort/ commitment representing people to get the maximum benefits from the state as well central government of india,

there are too many old people in congress over 30-40 years doing nothing and enjoying party money with couple of groups ! that’s all …… they dont bother at all what our udupi/ dk needs as a basic infrastructure like agricultural/ employment/ roads/ housing for poor people/ good policy / good governance / good law and order etc

  2. I agree with Ram that a decent and honest politician with firm conviction and vision and is driven to serve the people he represents irrespective of his/her party affiliation. It is not the party that does the work, it is the work of honest and hard working people that brings credit to the party they represent. Unfortunately, we have very few stalwarts of that character in Congress party today and most of them use the party platform to further their interest.

  3. Ramanathanna,
For you party first and person next.

For people who look for character, development, person first. Their party affiliation does not matter.

We thought Congress will be a good alternative to BJP. You guys have disappointed us completely. Your party did not use the right opportunity. Even if you wake up now. It is too late.

Hope a day will come, people first, development first and the party last.

Hope JP Hegde wins this time.
