Mangaluru: ‘Jugari’ Play Staged at Kalaangann
Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann’s 295th Monthly Theatre Programme took place on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at Kalaangann, drawing theatre enthusiasts.

The programme was formally inaugurated by noted artist and Surabhi Sounds proprietor Damodar Bhagwat, popularly known as Dammiyanna, who rang the traditional bell to mark the event’s commencement. Mandd Sobhann, President Louis J. Pinto, and Secretary Rony Crasta were present on the dais. The programme was introduced by Irene Rebello.
After the inauguration, the Astitva theatre troupe staged the 21st performance of Jugari, a lively comedy that the audience enthusiastically received. Celebrated author Vaikom Muhammad Basheer wrote the original play in Malayalam, and Rohan Adkabare translated it into Konkani. Arun Lal of Kerala designed and directed the production.
The cast included Clanwin Fernandes, Lester Menezes, Zeena Braggs, Mathew Nicholas, Alwyn C. Veigas, Samuel Mathias, Claren Serrao, and Christopher D’Souza, who brought humour and vitality to the stage through their spirited performances.
The musical arrangements were handled by Sweedal D’Souza and Christon Fernandes. Glen D’Souza managed the lighting design, while Mehboob Ninasam and Sathish Ninasam took care of the stage setup. Bindu Cutinha provided the background vocals, adding depth to the overall presentation.
The event once again reflected Mandd Sobhann’s continued commitment to promoting theatre and Konkani culture through its regular monthly stage programmes at Kalaangann.
