Mangaluru: Six young men from Manjanady are said to have arrived in two bikes at the house of Chandrashekhar Uchil, president of Mangaluru assembly constituency unit of the BJP on Friday night.
They flashed lethal weapons and asked for Chandrashekhar. He was away at a religious event. Only his mother, younger brother Raghava and nephew Rajesh Uchil who is the president of Someshwar gram panchayat were at home.
They threatened that one of them would be finished. In the meantime, Rajesh phoned some friends for help. When they arrived, the miscreants escaped in their bikes.
The friends who came to help gave them a hot chase and managed to catch one of them near the Kotekar Beeri checkpost.
He was thoroughly roughed up and handed over to the police. He has given his name as Ruksan. On the basis of information provided by him, Nazeer and Fayaz from Manjanady were arrested the soon after.
Search is on for Taisar, Rameez and Rafiq, who have been absconding.
The motive for the act is not yet known.
