Mangaluru: ‘Samarpan 2’ – a Tribute to Indian Classical Dance Organized by ‘Nrityaangan’ Enthralls Audience

Mangaluru: “Nrityaangan, a registered trust in Mangaluru, organized SAMARPAN 2 – a Tribute to Indian Classical Dance, the first event by the trust this year. This classical dance festival was held at Don Bosco Hall, Balmatta Road here on 17th & 18th January 2015. The event was inaugurated by Ullal Mohan Kumar – Senior Dance Guru, Mangaluru, Chandrahas Rai – Assistant Director, Department of Kannada & Culture, D.K. &  Sudhakar Rao Pejawar, Art Connoisseur, Mangaluru. Smt. Radhika Shetty, Creative Director, Nrityaangan, who was at the helm in organizing this unique dance show, was also assisted by Smt. Sangeetha Maiya and Smt Manjula, the active members of Nrityaangan.

Established artistes, Gayatri Sriram – Singapore, Uma Govind – Bengaluru, Aishwarya Balasubramanian– USA, Sanchita Banerjee – New Delhi, Mridula Rao – Bengaluru performed as part of Samarpan. Budding young performers from in & around Mangaluru, Artha Perla & Ayana Perla, Chaithra Perdoor & Trisha Rai also showcased their talent during this 2-day festival, and enthralled the audience with their soulful dances.

 

Nrityaangan: A Synopsis

Nrityaangan is a registered charitable trust founded with an aim of spreading and propagating the art form in and aroundMangaluru by organizing workshops and dance festivals that will nurture the next generation of artistes and provide them with performance opportunities. Nrityaangan had a very successful 2014 by organizing events like Samarpan, Sangama,Manthana, The Prophet and Navarasa, where internationally acclaimed artistes conducted workshops and presentations for the local and outstation dance students. The local audiences also had a chance to witness the performances by these renowned artistes.

Samarpan is an attempt by Nrityaangan to provide a stage for local artistes to exhibit their talent and prowess in Indian Classical Dance. The performances by internationally reputed artistes will provide the local students with the necessary exposure and will help enhance their knowledge of the arts.
