Say NO To Caste Based Reservation

Gone are the days wherein people walked for miles to get their basic education. Gone are the days wherein people sat under the public street lights to prepare for their exams. In the present generation, every house is provided with electric supply. Roadways and transportation facilities have improved to an extent wherein most of the rural localities are somehow connected to the cities. India is a developing nation, and we see changes and developments taking place in various fields. But why are there no changes made in the reservation policy?

Caste based reservation has been made in various fields such as education, profession, politics, etc. Most of the talented students, employees and common people are denied from what they truly deserve. Lots of injustice is caused to the most deserving candidates due to caste reservations.

I completed my PUC with 91% and had a CET rank of 5535. I wished to do engineering in the field of Electronics and Communication (EnC) in one of the reputed colleges in Mangaluru. But I ended up getting a seat for Electrical and Electronics Engineering in the same college, while one of my friends having 10,000 odd rank got a seat for EnC in the same college due to her caste reservation. Both of us belong to the same caste. Since my mother works in an government organization, I was put under general merit. My question is – does a person’s abilities and talent depend on his/her parent’s income, caste and the place they belong to? If not, then why are the seats in various institutions categorized based on caste and rural quota? When each one of us answer the same question paper and are given ranks based on our performance; the seats must also be allotted purely based on our ranks and not on our financial or caste status.

The age limit for answering civil service exams likes UPSC, IAS, IPS, etc. for people coming under general merit is 32 years while that for OBC ( other backward communities) is extended to 35 years. How are the people from OBC different from those belonging to the general category?

Recently, I happened to know from a person that promotions in various government organizations is also not purely based on an employee’s progress. Instead, caste plays an important role in prioritizing candidates for promotions.

Most of us tolerate such injustice from a long time. In fact, I never took this matter seriously before. But when I came across the fact that most of the government organizations follow caste reservation policy for job recruitment and promotions, I realized that this government policy requires a major correction else most of the deserving candidates will be deprived from what they truly deserve. Let’s try our level best to raise our voice against this and strive to BRING AN END TO CASTE BASED RESERVATION.

  1. Excellent write up Deepti !!
Truly caste reservation is one of the biggest social evils in the present day !!
You should have included this joker Hardik patel’s name here Deepti …. People like him pushing India behind to Stone Age :/

  2. This type of reservation policy of the Government has fostered inefficiency, lower productivity, and mismanagement in all sectors of economy, especially the stinky public sector. So long we continue to follow the caste-based reservation policy, we will never promote ourselves into developed economy. It is only the private entrepruenership of our skilled personnel that has helped the country’s economy grow; not the inefficient government sector nor the people managing that sector who are placed there not because of their ability, but because of who they are. One side we preach about “One India, One People” and our political stalwarts keeping in mind the votes don’t think of national interest, but their own self-centered interest. What we need is not the caste-based reservation; we need affirmative action program, that would help economically and socially backward communities to help themselves to get into the mainstream of Indian economy, based not who they are, but what they are.

  3. Totally agree with subject… when people come to same college and score the same marks, caste plays the wild card and people with reservation of caste enjoy the benefits… what about the hard work put in by the student belonging to general merit, it all goes in vain… Totally makes no sense

  4. Not only that, plenty of SC/ST/OBC/Minorities/etc. are rich. Reservation if any, should be given to folks who fall below a certain income rather than the caste or gender they were born into.
