Mangaluru: Short stories are the outcome of Industrialization – Dr Perla

Mangaluru: The form of short story is an off-shoot of industrialization which took place in the beginning of last century and thereafter peoples’ thirst towards democracy said Dr Vasanthkumar Perla, Asst Station Director and Programme Head of Akashvani.

He was speaking after inaugurating the workshop on short stories arranged by Puttanna Kulal memorial trust and Akashvani Mangaluru here on February 27.

Short stories, poems, essays are short form of literary expressions after getting freedom from the clutches of monarchy and a growth of Democracy all through-out the world. And also a sudden change in the life style because of industrialization, Dr Perla said.

Youth should concentrate on literary writings so that their thought and expression will come out in a methodical and systematic manner, said Prof A V Navada in his presidential address.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, was present in the function as chief guest. The writings should focus towards the welfare of the society. Literature should try to unite people and should not try to disintegrate, he said.

Dr Udayakumar Irvattur, Principal of University College, Mangaluru and U S Shenoy Kundapur were also present as chief guests.

Youth are the Brand ambassadors of the society and they only can preserve the Kannada literature said Dr Annayya Kulal in his key note address.

Retired teacher Mallayy Muttayya Shetty was honoured on the occasion for his social work by Dr Annayya Kulal, Founder of Puttanna Kulal Pratistana® and President of Kannada Katte.

Sadananda Holla, Programme Executive, Akashvani, Mangaluru welcomed the gathering. K Ashok, Programme Executive, delivered the vote of thanks. Dr Sadananda Perla compered the programme.

In the second session nine short story writers, namely Tharanatha G Mestha, Deekshita Vorkady, Manoj Rao Udupi, Mogeri Shekhara Devadiga, Manjunath Kulal Hiliyana, Poornima N Bhat, Kusuma, Bharathraj Kulal and Praveenraj, who got prizes in the competitions, presented their short stories. Manjunath Kulal Hiliyana, bagged the “Puttanna Kulal Youth writer award 2016” for his “Ännu” short story and also got the first prize in the competition, he was honoured by the guests.

Prof Udyavara Madhava Acharya, well known short story writer presided over the session and gave hints to the youth on how to write and present short stories.

Dr Nagappa Gowda, lecturer and president of Kannada Sangha, University College Mangaluru, Mahabal Kulal member and Shashidhar Shetty H, Secretary of Kannada Katte Mangaluru were present as chief guests.

The students of University College presented cultural programmes at the end of programme.
