Mangaluru: Taluk and Zilla Panchayat Elections on February 13 and 20 – Code of Conduct in Force

Mangaluru: The State election commission has issued a calender of events for the General elections to Zilla and Taluk Panacyats in the state on January 18. The first phase of the elections will be held on Febraury 13, as per the calender of events given below for the Taluk and Zilla Panchayats of the following districts except the SorabaTaluk Panchayat of Shivamogga District which has not completed its term.

Elections to 922 constituencies of 26 Zilla Panchayats and 3884 constituencies of 175Taluk Panchayats in the state will be held in two phases. In the first phase the polling will be held in Bengaluru Urban, Benagluru Rural, Ramanagara, Chitradurga, Davanagere,Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Shivamogga, Tumkuru, Belagavi, Haveri, Bagalakote, UttaraKannada, Dharwad and Gadag.

The second phase of the polling will be held on February 20, in Mysuru,Chikkamagaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Chamarajanagar,Udupi, Bidar (Taluk Panchayat only), Bellary, Yadagiri, Koppala, Kalaburgi (TP), Raichur(TP) and Vijayapura (TP). Vijayapura, Bidar, Kalburgi and Raichur Zilla Panchayats are subjected to stay orders of the High court.

In the first phase of elections, the date and day of notification of election will be issued by the deputy commissioner on January 25 and the last date for filing nominations will be on February 1. The last date to withdraw the nomination of the candidate will be on February 2. The polls will be held from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on February 13. Date ofrepoll if necessary will be on February 15, Votes will be counted on February 23 and the election process shall be completed by February 24.

In the second phase of elections date and day of notification of election will be issued by the deputy commissioner on February 1 and the last date for filing nominations will be on February 8. Date for scrutiny of nominations on February 9. The last date to withdraw the nomination of the candidate will be on February 11. The pols will be held from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on February 20. Date of repoll if necessary will be on February 22, Votes will be counted on February 23 and the election process shall be completed by February 24.

The code of conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the rural areas of the state and will be in force till the completion of the election process. The model code of conduct shall also be applicable to rural areas of the upgraded urban local bodies for which elections have not been held. However the model code of conduct is not applicable to the areas coming under the jurisdiction of urban local bodies.
