Mangaluru: Treat Human Life with Utmost Care – Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru: The Graduation Day celebrations of students of Pharmacy, Nursing and Physiotherapy of the Shree Devi Group of Colleges was held at 10:00 am in the T V Ramana Pai Convention Hall, Kodialbail here on Saturday, 17 January.

The programme began with an invocation. The guests for the event were MLC Ivan D’Souza, A Sadananda Shetty (Chairman, Shree Devi Education Trust (SDET)), Nidhish S Shetty (Vice-Chairman – SDET), Maina S Shetty (Secretary – SDET), Priyanka N Shetty (Trustee – SDET), Dr Jagadish V Kamath (Principal, Shree Devi College of Pharmacy), Dr Bibiana Vijay (Principal, Shree Devi College of Nursing) and Dr Vijay P (Principal, Shree Devi College of Physiotherapy).

Chief guest Ivan D’Souza congratulated the graduates and the colleges for presenting the society with more ‘public servants’. He further said, “You [graduates] have taken an oath to dedicate yourselves to the service of the society. You should treat human life with utmost care and should have adequete knowledge of what you are doing. Many students neglect medical jurisprudence during their studies, but it is an important part of your profession. You need to act according to the rules that have been laid, and be careful not to make mistakes. Your duty has now begun, you are now public servants to serve the society.”

Sadnanda Shetty in his presidential address urged the graduates to discharge their duties in the right way, strictly follow the ethics of their profession and give to society rather than expecting something from it.

The Principals administered the oath to the graduates of their respective colleges. Ivan D’Souza presented a scroll and memento to each graduate and congratulated them on their achievement.

The oath taking and lamp lighting ceremony for 1st yr BSc Nursing then took place. The students were urged by their Principal, Bibiana Vijay to uphold the ideals and ethics practiced by The Lady with the Lamp, Florence Nightingale. Bibiana Vijay then administered the Nightingale Pledge to the students.

The graduates shared their experiences and expressed their gratefulness to all those who had supported them over the duration of their courses.

Asst Professor Edwina Monis welcomed the gathering. Ramesh Kulkarni delivered the vote of thanks. Judith and Aneeshna compered the programme. There was a cultural programme thereafter.
