Maritime Incident off Kerala Coast: Response and Rescue Efforts Underway
Mangaluru: A fire aboard the Singapore-flagged container vessel MV Wan Hai 503, en route from Colombo to Mumbai, prompted a large-scale rescue operation approximately 78 nautical miles off the Beypore coast of Kerala on June 9. The Indian Navy vessel INS Surat responded to the distress call.
As of current reports, 18 of the 22 crew members have been successfully rescued. Five sustained injuries, with two reported to be in critical condition and requiring immediate medical attention. The rescued crew members, comprising nationalities from China (8), Taiwan (4), Myanmar (4), and Indonesia (2), are expected to arrive at New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), Panambur, by 2200 hrs. Four crew members remain missing.
All relevant authorities have coordinated to ensure the provision of immediate medical assistance upon their arrival.
