Mayor acted like Goonda by removing Swami Vivekananda Road Signboard – Roopa D Bangera

Mangaluru: “The first citizen of Mangaluru Mayor Harinath is acting like a goonda and has removed the Swami Vivekananda Road Signboard which was erected near the Kadri Park. There is a lack of information when tourists come to Mangaluru they do not know where Kadri park is located. To give proper information about the road, we had erected a road signboard on the Swami Vivekananda Road”, said the opposition leader Roopa D Bangera in a press meet held at her Chamber, MCC here on January 13.

Addressing the mediapersons Roopa said, “To mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, we had erected a new road signboard for the Swami Vivekananda Road. On January 12, the Swamiji of Jogi Math unveiled the sign board. But the board was removed by the MCC later in the day. This is an insult to Swami Vivekananda and the Swamiji of Jogi Math”, she said.

Roopa further said, “When we asked with the commissioner of MCC, he said that it was the order of the Mayor to remove the road signboard.  Being the first citizen of Mangaluru, the Mayor did not have the courtesy to check with the corporator of the area before removing the signboard. I demand the Mayor to put back the signboard within two days. If the Mayor fails to install the signboard in its place we will stage a protest in front of MCC on Monday”, warned Roopa.

Roopa also said, “I respect the Jogi community, I had invited the Swamiji of Jogi Math to unveil road sign board. Without bringing the issue to my knowledge removing the road signboard is not fair. The signboard had existed there since many years and we just repainted it, we had even mentioned Kadri park and Kadri Yogishwar Math along with Swami Vivekananda Road on the sign board.”
Corporator Premanand Shetty, Naveen Shetty, Deputy Mayor Sumitra Kariya and others were also present.
