Mayor Kavitha orders Clean up of Stinking spot near KSRTC Junction

Mangaluru: The Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Kavitha Sanil along with other officials paid a surprise visit to the KSRTC junction area on May 12, after several complaints from citizens of water logging and stink in the area.  The water from the Bharath Mall food outlets has been flowing onto the main road.

Later Mayor Kavitha Sanil inspected the area where the waste has been accumulating and causing problems to the road users.  She then visited the spot opposite Bharath Mall which has been used for open defecation.

Speaking to the mediapersons Kavitha Sanil said, “There were many complaints about the water which was accumulating in front of the KSRTC bus stand.  Today I personally visited the spot to study the situation. There is a complaint that the Bharat Mall food outlets are the cause for the flow of waste water to the main road.  In the rainy season, people face severe problems since buses always splash dirty water on the pedestrians which lead to accidents”.

“I will order the health department to clean the area and demolish all the illegal petty shops in the area.  Bejai is very near to the Mangaluru city corporation and people do not bother to keep this area clean.  We will clean the area as soon as possible.  I have also asked the Auto drivers to keep the area clean so that no one can come and defecate in this area.

Kavitha Sanil also said, “I had given 10 days time to remove all the barricades used by commercial building owners in front of their buildings. The time limit which we had given is over and today we have personally removed the barricades from the parking area reserved for customers of the building. In the coming days if we find any of the barricades in front of any commercial building we will take action against them for blocking public parking space.”

Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde, Sabitha Misquith, Rauf and others were also present.
