MCC Mayor Kavitha Receives 50 calls in Maiden Phone-in Programme
Mangaluru: The Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Kavitha Sanil received 50 calls in the first of its kind direct phone-in programme, held at her chamber here on May 23.
The direct phone-in programme initiated by Mayor Kavitha Sanil to listen to the problems faced by the people of Mangaluru city was a great success after receiving more than 50 calls in an hour.
Most of the calls received by the Mayor were regarding the drainage problems, encroachment and road issues. Mayor Kavitha assured to solve most of the problems within a week. She also ordered the concerned officers to prepare estimates for the construction and repair of roads and other work and to start the work after the rainy season.
The Mayor received 50 calls from the public, the first call was from Sunitha from Urva regarding the drinking water issues. There are rumours that the waste water from industries will be treated and supplied as drinking water. The caller further said that the people of Mangaluru want to lead a healthy life and providing treated wastewater from industries will lead to sickness.
Responding to the caller Mayor Kavitha said, “Wastewater will be treated and utilized only for the industries and not for drinking purpose.”
There is traffic congestion near Sharavu Temple where it is necessary to install a signal. Mayor assured to discuss the traffic issue on May 26 at MCC during the meeting with the concerned officials.
Caller Mahesh Vamanjoor said that Near the RTO Examination center at Vamanjoor, a house has been built on the drainage which should be investigated. Mayor assured to send the officers for spot investigation.
Another caller said that at Bhavishya Nagar Pilikula four sites are lying vacant and grass has grown in the empty land from which snakes enter the neighbouring houses creating problems for them.
The name boards of the shops, offices, and Institutions should be in Kannada, said Venkatesh Shenoy.
In the Mangaluru city corporation, the officers should wear uniforms since it is difficult to distinguish officers from other staff. Staff should also wear uniform so that the public coming to the MCC can identify them.
K Narayan complained to the Mayor that the retaining wall at Vasanth Nagar near Karnataka Bank has collapsed. When contacted the MCC official on phone, she was rude and did not respond positively to the complaint.
Mayor assured the caller to send the officer to the spot as soon as possible.
Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, Sashidhar Hegde, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Abdul Rauf, Sabitha, and others were also present.
