Measures taken to Initiate Permanent Drinking Water – Sorake

Udupi: Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake has said that measures have been taken to initiate permanent drinking water schemes to the district and a proposal has been sent to the state government.

Speaking to mediapersons after chairing the KDP meeting here at the Zilla Panchayat office on April 18, the minister said that a sum of Rs 2.5 crore has been sanctioned for a temporary solution to provide drinking water under the task force.

Stating that nearly 95 percent of the drinking water schemes have been completed, he said that the multi-village drinking water scheme has been introduced in some of the villages. In the 21 gram panchayat’s where there is no drinking water source, water will be provided through tankers. Rs 1.20 crore has been released for the urban areas and Udupi city would receive Rs 75 lakh, he added.

The district has been facing sand scarcity and action has been taken to tackle the issue. Manual sand mining activities would begin from 20 April. 30 sand blocks are identified, sand mining activity would go on for another month and would be banned during the monsoon. However, a request is made to the government for special consideration besides permitting to use the extracted sand within the district.

The valuation process for 94 C and 94 CC is taken up and the revenue department is working towards minimizing the value. The minister added that there are 73794 hectares of deemed forest land which also includes Kumki and Parambuku land.

Tourism projects are promoted in the district. The port construction at Gangolli and Koderi has commenced. Rs 80 crore worth work enabling a protection wall across the sea under ADB scheme is initiated. Rs 3 crore is released for each taluk.

Kundapur and Udupi come under the ADB scheme which covers drinking water and underground drainage projects. The funds from schemes like Amrut, KUDCEMP and also from the German aid would be spent. Tenders would be called by June 2016. Rs 7.48 crore is released under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, under which 5156 toilets are built and 19 villages are covered under solid waste management project. Rs 26 lakh is given to each village under Gram Vikas Yojana. Five villages are selected in each assembly constituency. Under Namma Grama Namma Rasthe scheme, 20 kilometers stretch of roads would be repaired at the cost of Rs 21 crore. Besides 90 kilometer roads would be taken up under City Road Improvement Project (CRIP). Rs 75 crore is released for the purpose and tendering process is underway, he added.
