Migrant Labourer Assaulted in Mangalore, Assailants Booked for Attempted Homicide

Mangalore: A migrant labourer from Jharkhand, Diljan Ansari, was brutally assaulted in Kulur, Mangalore, allegedly by four local residents who accused him of being an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant. The incident, which occurred within the Kavoor police station limits, has prompted a swift response from law enforcement, with a case of attempted homicide being registered against the accused.

Ansari, who has been migrating to Mangalore for the past 10-15 years to work for approximately 4-6 months annually, was allegedly accosted by Sagar, Danush, Lalu, and Rathish, all residents of Kulur. The group reportedly demanded that Ansari provide proof of his nationality, alleging that he was a Bangladeshi national. According to initial reports, the confrontation escalated when Ansari insisted that he was an Indian citizen.

The assailants then allegedly assaulted him with his own tools, inflicting severe head injuries that caused heavy bleeding.

A local Hindu woman intervened and rescued Ansari from the attack. Fearing further repercussions, Ansari, a migrant worker, did not initially file a police complaint and returned to his residence. However, local community leaders brought the incident to the attention of the police.

Following verification of the facts, authorities confirmed that Ansari is an Indian citizen who migrated to Mangalore for work. The Kavoor police have registered a case under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) against the four identified accused. Instructions have been issued for their immediate arrest.
The police have assured a thorough investigation and have pledged to ensure the safety and security of all residents, including migrant labourers, within their jurisdiction.
