Annual Income limit for Housing Scheme will be Increased – Minister U T Khader

Mangaluru: “I have been given the Housing and Urban Development ministry in the coalition government. I will discuss the matter regarding the increase in annual income to get the benefits in the housing scheme with the concerned authorities. As soon as one becomes a minister he/she will not have all the knowledge but will need to discuss with the concerned authorities. Before implementing any project, I will discuss with officials of the concerned department in the district, senior leaders, MLAs, the Mayor and the corporators”, said the newly appointed Housing and Urban Development minister U T Khader in a press meet held at the DCC office here on June 9. This is the Minister’s first visit to Mangaluru after taking charge of the HUD ministry.

Addressing the mediapersons, U T Khader said, “To strengthen the Congress party, all the party workers should be united. In Dakshina Kannada district, we have done a lot of development work but due to the propaganda by the opposition, we lost the elections. In the coming elections, we should be successful. Let the coalition government complete five years in the state. If there is any misunderstanding in the party about the ministerial berths, the high command and the senior leaders will solve it.”

U T Khader further said, “The Housing department is very important. Even though the annual income of the beneficiaries was Rs 32000, many have been deprived of this scheme. I will discuss this in the cabinet and try to increase the annual income limit to Rs 1 lakh. The government is providing 750 sqft houses under this scheme.”

When asked about making Bruhat Mangaluru, Khader said, “Let us make a Beautiful Mangaluru instead of the Bruhat Mangaluru. In Bengaluru, they are already facing problems to manage. In Mangaluru, the IDF has taken the contract to develop the city and Dharmaraj is preparing DPR for all the projects. If Mangaluru has not been developed then we need to investigate why? From 2001, the IDF has been taking care of the development work of Mangaluru city. The Mangaluru City Corporation has made an agreement with IDF, and if the development work has not been done properly in Mangaluru, we should hold the IDF along with others concerned responsible for it. The MCC should hold investigations in this regard.”

When asked that being HUD minister would he initiate action, Khader replied, “There is no politics regarding the development work. I will take all the MLAs together and work for the development of the district. If we want to develop the city, economy should flow. If all the departments work with integrity, we can bring changes in the system and the district will develop.”

Former MLAs J R Lobo, Abhaychandra Jain, MLC Harish Kumar, Mayor Bhaskar K, deputy mayor Mohammed Kunjathbail, former mayors Sashidhar Hegde, Kavitha Sanil, Kanachur Monu and others were also present.
