Minor fire at Mumbai airport’s Terminal 1 controlled, operations unaffected

Mumbai: A minor fire incident was reported at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai on Thursday, officials said.

The fire broke out at Terminal-1 at around 6:10 p.m. due to a short circuit.

According to the official statement released by the airport authorities, the emergency response teams acted swiftly and managed to bring the situation under control within minutes.

Their prompt action ensured that the blaze did not spread further and no damage was reported to airport infrastructure or passenger facilities.

The spokesperson for CSMIA confirmed that despite the incident, airport operations remained completely unaffected.

Flights continued to operate as per schedule, and passenger movement was not disrupted.

The quick containment of the fire highlights the efficiency of the airport’s emergency preparedness and the coordination between safety personnel and technical teams.

Terminal-1, which handles a significant portion of domestic traffic, resumed normal functioning immediately after the situation was neutralised.

Authorities have assured that safety audits and technical inspections will be carried out to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Electrical systems at the terminal are being thoroughly checked to identify and rectify any potential risks.

The airport management emphasised that passenger safety remains their highest priority and that robust mechanisms are in place to respond to emergencies of any scale.

While the incident was minor, it serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent safety protocols in high-traffic public spaces like airports.

The rapid response and containment reflect the preparedness of CSMIA’s emergency teams, who are trained to handle such situations with precision and speed.

Passengers present at the terminal during the incident were reassured by the immediate action taken, and normalcy was restored without delay.

The official communication from CSMIA concluded by reiterating that operations remain unaffected and that the airport continues to function smoothly.

The incident, though brief, underscores the critical role of emergency response infrastructure in ensuring uninterrupted services at one of India’s busiest aviation hubs.
