Miscreants in Udupi Start ‘Marwadi Hatao’ Campaign in Social Media, Traders Oppose
Udupi: From some days, the “Marwadi Hatao” campaign in Udupi District is active in the Social media. Some miscreants in Udupi have posted messages of ‘Marwadi Hatao’ against the city’s Marwadi community on the social network sites, including Facebook page.
After the posts went viral in Social media, the Marwadi Community has reacted and started a counter-campaign in the Social Media. Messages like “Is Udupi their father’s property to Marwadi Hatao?” have been posted.
Speaking to Mangalorean.com Narayan Singh said, “We have been doing business in Udupi for over three decades following all the government rules and regulations. Some people are jealous of us and are creating problems by misleading the people of Udupi”.
He further said, “Customers may have faced some problems in some of the shops, and it doesn’t mean that all Marwadies are cheaters. It is not correct to campaign against the Marwadi community on Social media. For the mistake of one person, how the entire community be held responsible”? he questioned. “We too are Indians. We are not from Pakistan or Bangladesh. Making false allegations against the entire community will not be tolerated. We will take legal action against them,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Udupi District BJP president Kuilady Suresh Nayak extended support to the Marwadi Community and said, “Any ‘Hatao’ campaigns are not taking place in Udupi and are not acceptable. Udupi is a place of Unity of different religions along with social, educational, cultural and business sectors. The BJP stands with the Marwadi community”, he said.
