MLC Kishor Kumar Puttur Appeals to Chief Secretary for Expedited Filling of Government Vacancies

Bangalore: Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Kishor Kumar Puttur has formally submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary of Karnataka, Smt. Shalini Rajneesh, urging the state government to address the substantial number of vacant posts across various departments. The appeal follows the revelation during the recent Legislative Council session in Belagavi that 2,84,881 government positions remain unfilled.

Representing the Dakshina Kannada-Udupi Local Authorities Constituency, Sri Puttur expressed grave concern over the protracted delay in filling these vacancies, particularly given the large number of qualified young individuals in Karnataka actively seeking government employment. He emphasized that the continued vacancy situation not only deprives aspiring youth of crucial job opportunities but also impedes the efficient delivery of essential government services to the public.

In his representation, the MLC underscored the necessity of incorporating adequate provisions within the upcoming 2026-27 State Budget to facilitate the swift filling of vacant positions across all departments. Sri Puttur argued that addressing the vacancies would substantially improve the efficiency of the administrative system while simultaneously providing much-needed employment prospects for the state’s burgeoning youth population.
During a meeting with Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Sri Puttur stressed the dual importance of filling vacant posts, citing both the provision of employment security for young people and the reinforcement of the state’s overall governance and administrative framework. He presented a formal memorandum outlining the urgent need for action in this regard.

Chief Secretary Rajneesh acknowledged the concerns raised by the MLC and assured him that the matter would be given due consideration. She stated that discussions would be initiated with the relevant departments to assess the situation and that appropriate measures would be implemented in accordance with the demands outlined in the memorandum. The government is expected to provide further updates on its plan to address the significant number of vacant posts in the coming months.
